Births, Deaths, Marriages

BMD Information on the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Roll

It was only after having undertaken compilation of death and burial records from the Whangarei District Council in the course of some genealogical research that fortuitously I discovered how to access information on the New Zealand BMD Registry site. Up until that point I had decided not to bother including birth or death details of servicemen and women on the database listing.

Before I get on to discussing the matter of Births and Deaths in more detail, let me make it quite clear that anything you read in this section (and in  Cemetery Records) should be used only as a guide to your further research. Chances are that what you see is correct, but do not just take it at face value. Go in and check the indexes and other records yourself, so as to totally satisfy yourself that what you’ve seen on the database is correct. If it is not, then please let me know via the Freedoms Call Facebook group, so that I can make the necessary correction(s) to the roll.

Speaking of the Facebook page, I would love it if you would go ‘Like’ the page, ‘Share’ it, interact and raise any questions.

Requesting UK and Australian Birth, Marriage or Death Certificates

As with New Zealand, if you are looking at requesting a UK birth, marriage or death certificate, you will need to pay for this.  You can order the certificate you require online at The General Register Office .

In the first instance though you will want to review the Birth, Death and Marriage Indexes to locate the person you are looking for.  You can do this through the FreeBMD Index . Pretty much all of the GRO indexes dating from 1837 through to 1970 have been transcribed  and searches can also be conducted through commercial sites such as FindMyPast and Ancestry.

The registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Australia is the responsibility of the state and territory governments. If  you wish to obtain a copy of your Australian birth, marriage or death certificate you may apply through the official web site of the relevant State or Territory Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages

A reminder ..  Have you downloaded the Freedoms Call Roll of Honour, yet?

Hello Dale, My name is Carol Walker, my first cousin is Lewis Redwood, who told me about your website. I have some information on my uncle L F Tucker who was a POW captured in Libya and does not appear in the list you have compiled. Well done, this project is a great achievement. Can you kindly email me back and I can send through what info I have. Thankyou.

Hello Carol .. My apologies for the delay in responding. I have just now seen your note. Yes, I have Lincoln Frederick Tucker on the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Roll, but had not been aware that he was a POW. I have updated both the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Roll and POW List to reflect the information you’ve provided and would be happy to add anything else you can give me.
Tell me was Wally your Dad and are you married to Jim? Cheers.. Dale.
